Coalition of Counselors (A-Z)

The coalition of counselors are therapists that we have met with, screened and deemed safe to provide counseling to members of our community.

This is how they have answered the following questions:

  • Do you believe homosexuality is a sin? No
  • Do you believe gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered people should have the right to marry and adopt children? Yes
  • Do you believe that homosexuality is in any way secondary or less than heterosexuality? No

They have all signed the following statement:

"I believe that all people are created equal and entitled to all civil rights and liberties as available in this country; that all people deserve to feel safe and free to be authentic within their families, jobs and communities; and that oppression of the LGBT community must end."

Are you a counselor who'd like to join the Coalition? Please Contact Us.

Do you know a counselor who you think should be included? Nominate them here!

My focus has been in supporting children and parents in developing to their greatest potential. New neuroscience tells us that the development of a child's brain is ninety percent complete by age 5 and is fueled ONLY by relationship between the child and parent. This means that mental health was fueled for all of us by the presence of a loving and available parent, or lack thereof. It has NOTHING to do with the sexual orientation of the parent, their hair color,or where they live. I support LGBT parents in fostering, adopting, and parenting. I am trained in supporting the attachment process between parent and infant or child. I use the creative power of play in helping children heal, whether they have been harmed by abuse, bullying, parental separation, illness, substance abuse or other circumstances. We know that the creative processes that are used in play therapy, such as painting, drawing, sand tray, and water play all help children in expressing themselves. Play is truly "the language of children".

My focus is using the creative process of play in the assessment and treatment of children. In addition I can assess the strength of the attachment bond between a primary caregiver and a child, and if needed help the parent learn ways to strengthen the bond. This is particularly important for many adopted children, and children who have suffered early abuse and neglect

My inspirations are the children and families I work with every day! The strength of the human spirit even in our littlest children continues to amaze and inspire me.

Carol is a private practitioner in Play Therapy, with an office on Anchor Rode Drive in the central Naples area. She specializes in the treatment of infants, children, adolescents and families using the healing power of play. Carol has been a Naples resident since 1983, and has had extensive experience in the field of Children’s Mental Health. She worked as a teaching assistant at ''Step By Step” preschool for children with special needs in 1989 to 1991. Carol worked for Collier County Public Schools for several years at the Teenage Parenting Program (TAPP) where she taught parenting classes and case-managed pregnant and parenting students, and later as District Coordinator for Peer Mediation and Conflict Resolution Programs. Carol was a Children's Counselor at the Shelter for Abused Women, where she developed and facilitated Collier County’s initial support groups for child witnesses of domestic violence. Most recently, from 2003-2005 Carol was a Bereavement Counselor for Hospice of Naples, providing counseling and support groups for grieving children and adults. Carol’s Hospice work included providing support for HIV patients and their communities. Carol graduated in 1980 with High Honors from Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, Massachusetts with a B.A. in Psychology, and received a Master of Social Work degree from Barry University in Miami Shores in 1991. Carol obtained her license as a Florida Clinical Social Worker in 1995. She is a Registered Play Therapist and Registered Play Therapist Supervisor (RPT-S) with the International Association for Play Therapy, and has supervised other clinicians in learning play therapy. In 2008 Carol completed a 100-hour training course in Infant Mental Health at the Miami Institute for Child and Family Health. Carol is a member of the Association for Play Therapy (National and Florida), the Florida Association for Infant Mental Health, the National Association of Social Workers, and Sigma Xi Honor Society for Scientific Research. She recently founded a Naples Chapter of the Florida Association for Infant Mental Health (FAIMH). Carol is married and has two college-age children. She homeschooled her two children Aaron and Laura from grades four through ten, and is very knowledgeable about homeschooling techniques and curriculums. Carol believes in the social work code of ethics which states that no one should be discriminated against due to age, race, sex, religion, or sexual orientation; that all people should share equally in opportunity and have a right to self-dignity and self-determination; and that any parent who provides love, consistency, and attention for a child is a blessing. Carol is excited and honored to be included in the As I Am Coalition of Counselors.
