Coalition of Counselors (A-Z)

The coalition of counselors are therapists that we have met with, screened and deemed safe to provide counseling to members of our community.

This is how they have answered the following questions:

  • Do you believe homosexuality is a sin? No
  • Do you believe gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered people should have the right to marry and adopt children? Yes
  • Do you believe that homosexuality is in any way secondary or less than heterosexuality? No

They have all signed the following statement:

"I believe that all people are created equal and entitled to all civil rights and liberties as available in this country; that all people deserve to feel safe and free to be authentic within their families, jobs and communities; and that oppression of the LGBT community must end."

Are you a counselor who'd like to join the Coalition? Please Contact Us.

Do you know a counselor who you think should be included? Nominate them here!

I am an out gay may who struggled with self acceptance in a non-welcoming environment during my adolescent and teenage years. I have worked extensively in the LGBT community for 14 years as a therapist and community activist promoting self and community acceptance.

My practice focuses on three main areas: 1) Individual and couples counseling dealing with coming out and/or self acceptance issues as well as treating mental illnesses such as depression, anxiety, PTSD, Bipolar Disorder, and dissociative disorders. I also teach couples how to work together to get optimum satisfaction and fulfillment from their relationships. 2) I am considered as a leading expert on gender work in the State of Florida. I have extensive and in-depth knowledge of all phases of the transitional process for both FTMs and MTFs that spans over 12 years of clinical practice 3) I have extensive experience in organizational consulting specializing in organizational restructuring, developing policies and procedures, motivating teams, revitalizing and refocusing board work and direction, developing strategic plans, and grant writing.

I became a therapist due to the change I saw in myself from my own experience in therapy. Living through the emotional brutalizing I experienced as a young person due to my sexual orientation left me angry, self-loathing, bitter, non accepting of myself, my community, and people in general. Therapy taught me how to be more at peace with myself and my environment and I wanted to pay that forward to others by becoming a therapist.

Dr. Baker-Hargrove is a psychotherapist, speaker, and organizational consultant. He has presented at international, national, state and regional conferences and has provided presentations and/or consulted for The Florida Department of Law Enforcement, The Department of Juvenile Justice, United Parcel Service, BellSouth, The National Mental Health Association, Walt Disney World Company, and both Orange and Seminole County Public Schools. He has worked extensively with law enforcement personnel in Orange, Seminole, and Osceola Counties to promote diversion from jail for persons with serious and persistent mental illness. He has testified for the Florida State Legislature, Orange County Commission, and Orlando City Council regarding the mental health impact of discrimination on GLBT persons. He serves as both a peer grant reviewer and review committee chair for the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration of the Federal Department of Health and Human Services. He is an accomplished administrator, specializing in organizing and rehabilitating nonprofit organizations. In November 2001, he provided mental health support to police, firemen, and construction workers at World Trade Center Ground Zero in New York City. He currently works in private practice in downtown Orlando.
