Coalition of Counselors (A-Z)

The coalition of counselors are therapists that we have met with, screened and deemed safe to provide counseling to members of our community.

This is how they have answered the following questions:

  • Do you believe homosexuality is a sin? No
  • Do you believe gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered people should have the right to marry and adopt children? Yes
  • Do you believe that homosexuality is in any way secondary or less than heterosexuality? No

They have all signed the following statement:

"I believe that all people are created equal and entitled to all civil rights and liberties as available in this country; that all people deserve to feel safe and free to be authentic within their families, jobs and communities; and that oppression of the LGBT community must end."

Are you a counselor who'd like to join the Coalition? Please Contact Us.

Do you know a counselor who you think should be included? Nominate them here!

I believe that all people are equally deserving of respect, compassion, and the opportunities to pursue their own happiness, as long as their actions do not impede the same for others. I find it painful that many people are treated as less deserving of these opportunities than others, especially when this treatment originates in their families and religious institutions. Though we are all human beings and share this commonality, I relish the unique qualities that we all have. I am privileged to have many friends who are gay and/or lesbian. I have heard countless stories of the pain that they have experienced because of prejudice against them and consider it one of my responsibilities to alleviate the continuation of this kind of prejudice.

I consider myself an eclectic therapist, since I don't believe that one-size-fits-all. My role is to guide people along the path of self-knowledge through empathic listening, non-judgmental acceptance, and supportive, sensitive, sensible feedback.

In the 25 years since I received my MSW I have worked with people from all walks of life, who were struggling with the stresses and sometimes overwhelming problems which life can present.

I became a pioneer the field of GLB psychotherapy because of the ignorance of the str8 therapists about our lifestyle and their biases. At the time gay/bi/lesbian therapists were not forthcoming. The needs of our community motivated me. Yes I have many friends are GLB as well family members.

To help people remove the hurdles which stalemate their realizing the potential of their life. This can be low self worth, internalized homophobia (big one), inadequate role modeling, inability to put love, intimacy and sex together. A community is only as good as its parts, and our parts need attention!

The complex challenges of helping people to remit their suffering, and to go from mourning their gayness to celebrating it. Having a former client let me know his/her life has been been greatly improved since their work in therapy.

I began my career as a clergy person, and then later moved into the field of psychotherapy. I co-founded the first state licensed mental health clinic in the world in Boston, Mass in 1970. The clinic was The Homophile Community Health Service or HCHS. The clinic came under the Umbrella of Boston University, School of Medicine, Division of Psychiatry where I would be Clinical Instructor in Psychiatry (Pastoral Counseling). I was the clinic's Principle Therapist in its first year, and later became Executive Director. The clinic had a radio show on WBUR Boston dedicated to the Gay Community. I participated in the program several times. As well I was a Television Guest on many prime time talk shows in the Boston area at the time on the subject of homosexuality. I have written for G Magazine a Boston Publication, as well as articles for the United Methodist Home magazine on sexuality. I have also served on the boards of several GLB organizations, including The Institute for Human Identit (NYC), The Homophile Union of Boston, Exodus Outreach (a GLB outreach institute to educaitonal systems in the Greater Boston Area. I maintain my Massachusetts licenses in Social Work and Marriage and Family Therapy. I founded Mass Bay Counseling Associates in 1976 which was my private practice employing 5 therapists who shared in my practice. In addition to the above, I acted as a Mentor to the MCC pastors of MCC Boston, and served their Worcester mission for a brief period of time. I am honored that I just begun to serve as a Board Member with AsIAm.

I believe the body is a self-healing machine that is always working towards wellness and wholeness. By tuning into and learning it's language it will tell what is out of alignment in our lives and HOW to get back to our natural state of being - peace and harmony.

The symptoms we experience are our guides, not pathologies, whether emotional, mental or physical. I can help learn to listen to the teachings and inner wisdom of the body that will lead you to living the life of your dreams - it's why we are here.

“Life has its ups and downs, but when those downs become more frequent, become too intense, or last longer than they should, I'd like to help. You can be assured that issues ranging from divorce or other relationship conflict, grief and loss, parenting difficulties, substance dependence, depression, or other significant stressor will be addressed using sound treatment recommendations. A cognitive-behavioral approach is my area of specialty, but we will work together to determine the best plan to meet your individual needs.

For the past 14 years, I have been associated exclusively with private practice mental health counseling. My background ranges from in-patient treatment and management of other treatment providers, to group work, to teaching at the college level to providing school-based counseling services for elementary, middle, and high school students.

The office is centrally located in the Ft. Myers/Cape Coral area and is handicapped accessible. Professional, confidential services are rendered in a comfortable setting for individuals, couples, and children (ages 5-14).”
